Clair de Lune ist eine Reflektion über Liszts mannigfaltige doch unerfüllte Beziehungen zu Frauen. Vier aus einem Stück gefaltete Papierkleider symbolisieren die vier wichtigsten Leidenschaften des Franz Liszt. Eines davon dreht sich im Tanz zu den Klängen von Clair de Lune, ausgelöst durch eine Annäherung des Betrachters. Die Korrespondenz zwischen Liszt und seinen Frauen erscheint geisterhaft an den Wänden.
Das Papier weist einerseits auf die Niederschrift der Kompositionen, in die Franz Liszt seine Gefühle in Noten ausgedrückt hat, hin, andererseits auf die Vergänglichkeit und Fragilität von Zuneigung; die Faltung auf das Reglement, das der Liebe oft entgegensteht: gesellschaftliche Konvention, Religion und dem Streben nach Anerkennung.
My work Clair de Lune is a reflection on Liszt ́s many, but ultimately failed, relationship with women. The installation shows four folded paper dresses, all made out of one piece of paper, symbolizing the four women that were Liszt ́s greatest passions. When the observer approaches, one of the dresses starts to move, “dancing” to the music of Clair de Lune. At the same time, excerpts of Liszt`s correspondence with this women appear on the surrounding walls, like eerie messages from ghosts of the past.
There are two reasons why I used paper as a material in my work: on the one hand, it alludes to the sheets of paper Liszt used to write down his compositions, expressing his feelings through music; on the other hand, paper reminds us how fleeting and fragile affection can be. The folding technique I used hints at the rules and restriction that often stand in the way of love: social conventions, religion, and the need to be accepted and recognized by society.
